Frequently Asked Questions

Person drawing with colored pencil on detailed botanical artwork

What kind of artwork do you create?

Candice’s long career in fine art includes several years spent working with pigment and pencil on fine art paper (cotton rag*).

Her art style is typically known as ‘photorealism’ or ‘hyperrealism’, and involves the realistic depiction of the subject matter in 2D. The result is a “Trompe l’oeil” effect: the viewer perceives the artwork’s detail as a three-dimensional object.

Each piece can take 100+ hours to create.

In addition to receiving your original artwork, Candice will also film and edit the process of the piece’s creation, gifting you a small video for you to keep and share.

*Cotton paper, also known as rag or rag stock paper, is made using cotton linters or cotton from used cloth as the primary material. This process produces smoother paper with higher archival ratings than other types of paper.

Do you attend the wedding as live entertainment?

Live wedding painters are having a moment!

Unfortunately, the slow pace and precision required to create her artworks’ detail means the creation of Candice’s pieces aren’t best suited to a live setting. Instead, they are created in a studio environment with studio lighting.

While the process of creation does take time, this means that your meticulously-created artwork will arrive after the event - and you’ll be ready to relive the excitement of your special day once again.

Or, if you are someone who likes to plan ahead, then we can strategise and bring your artwork to life in time for the big day.

Can you discount your prices?

Like most bespoke artworks, time is a large part of The Wedding Atelier’s creation process. In order to ensure your satisfaction with your final piece, we take our time to discuss your chosen objects and their arrangement, which inform the all-important foundations of the artwork.

This requires considered communication and, in some cases, logistics that may involve other parties (event planners, photographers, etc).

An artwork from The Wedding Atelier is an opulent item, created in tandem with the artist and executed flawlessly to deliver your dream contemporary piece.

Can we offer an artwork as a gift?

Yes. We can create a piece as a gift to the couple, or create a gift certificate.

Please be aware that The Wedding Atelier creates a limited number of pieces per calendar year. Don't hesitate to contact us in advance to secure your place in the schedule.

Do you offer framing and international shipping?

Our price list includes both domestic and international shipping options for all unframed pieces.

Please be aware that some countries collect additional taxes and import duties when the artwork arrives in your country.

For customers in Australia, framing and transport can be organised at an additional cost.

Framing with acrylic - not glass - can also be organised for customers abroad.

Please be aware that that will incur an additional fee for handling and shipping due to the weight and scale of the framed artwork.

How do you compose the artwork with our objects?

This is a vital part of the process, requiring considered communication and sometimes coordination with other parties (photographers).

Depending on your location and subject matter that may involve pieces coming together on the wedding day, we may need to work alongside your photographer in order to capture the perfect reference photo.

For example;

  • The bouquet, a slice of the wedding cake, a precious heirloom, or a Polaroid taken at the cutting of the cake or the first dance, these reference images are transferred to us, and from here, we build the composition of the artwork.

  • The studio can source objects within specific parameters if the artwork does not require elements particular to the wedding event, or the studio can organise the safe collection and return of items.

*All of these details can be further discussed during our communication when building the artwork.
